Tips For Speaking Module

For both the AT & GT candidates, speaking module is either by face-to-face examination or video call examination. This is an informal speaking test and is recorded in case one wanted to ask for remark, if you wish later.


Test last between 11-14 minutes (not more & not less)
It begins with ID check and greeting.

Further, the speaking test is made up of three parts.

Format:

Part: 1 – 4 to 5 minutes conversation with examiner (Topics mainly involves regarding the candidate routine life such as work, family, home life, personal interests, etc )
Part: 2 – 2 to 3 minutes – Que-Card is included in this section. (1 minute will be given to prepare notes on the given topic & 2 minutes to speak on that same mentioned topic)
Part: 3 – 4 to 5 minutes- Long Discussion Section (follow up questions, around the topic given in part2, discussing it more precisely)

Strategies for scoring good bands in speaking:

  1. Don’t memorize the answers
  2. Don’t use big and unfamiliar words
  3. Use range of grammatical structure
  4. Don’t try to copy others accent or don’t try to emphasize your accent.
  5. Practice, to extend your answers. Don’t just simply answer it with yes or no. It is advisable to provide answers with reasons.
  6. Marking is done for: Fluency and coherence, Lexical resource, Grammatical range, and accuracy & Pronunciation. So, be coherent, speak fluently and without hesitation, use various vocabularies, avoid grammar mistakes & pronounce words well.
  7. Practice, common IELTS topic.
  8. Building the confidence while answering is the key to score desired bands.
  9. In part 2, make the most of your one minute
  10. Make sure to speak clearly & at natural speed. Do not try to rush off the topic.
  11. Don’t give up. Try to give full answers.
  12. While practising speaking in alone, record yourself to find the visible mistakes and try to improve them. Know your strength and weakness.
  13. Practice answering sample answer.
  14. In examination, ask the question again if you need to.
  15. If you make a mistake, don’t panic. Always stay relaxed.
  16. Try to communicate in English language with everyone & be committed to speaking English every day.
  17. Avoid speaking in monotone.
  18. Avoid fillers.
  19. Avoid repetition.
  20. Be natural. Don’t slow pace or pace up your speaking.
  21. Practice, how to pronounce numbers clearly.
